Unique Outdoor Activities to Try This Fall
When the temperatures cool down to more tolerable levels, you can have a lot of fun with some unique outdoor activities, especially in the fall.
Its easier to put on extra layers or move around more to warm up than it is to continually take clothes off to cool down. This makes the fall season more enjoyable for most people who will spend more time outside in the fall than in the summer. You can enjoy some great activities during autumn that might not be as much fun in the summer.
Here are some wonderful and unique outdoor activities you’ll want to try this fall.
Fall is time for collecting leaves
Most people aren’t going to climb trees to pull green leaves off, but once these leaves begin to turn brown, orange, yellow, and red, they also start to fall on the ground. You can spend some time collecting the leaves on the ground and find a way to preserve them. This is a fantastic way to spend time with your family and be outside during this season. Make it fun and see who can collect the most variety of leaves.
Camp in the backyard
One of the most fun and unique outdoor activities that you can try in the fall is camping in your backyard. The fall temperatures make it more enjoyable to spend the night in a tent in your yard. It’s also a good time to start a fire in your firepit and have some s’mores while you sit around, talk to each other, and reconnect. Camping could become a backyard tradition in your family.
Pick apples at an orchard
Apples are in season during fall, which makes it the best time of the year to head to the orchard to pick them. These apples could be great on their own or make delicious desserts. You’ll love the flavors of the freshly picked apples, which can be much more enticing than those bought at the store. Picking them yourself is a fun activity that you’ll be glad to enjoy with your friends and family. Get out there and get some apples that could become part of your fall treats and activities.
Track the moon
The harvest moon and super moon often appear in the fall. These are times of the year when the moon appears to be closest to the Northern Hemisphere. You can get your kids excited about looking up at the sky and watching the moon by tracking the phases of the moon every night. If you track the moon for a month, you’ll see every phase and can talk about how the moon is where we get the term month for our calendar.
Go on a hayride
Hayrides could happen at any time of the year, but traditionally the are one of the many unique outdoor activities enjoyed in the fall. This can be a lot of fun for you and your date, especially if you visit a local pumpkin patch and bring a quilted blanket to enjoy the crisp temperatures. Pick up a few pumpkins and enjoy the hayride under the blanket while sipping hot apple cider. This could be one of the most memorable and fun things you can do outside during the fall.
Watch the birds
Birds generally fly south for the winter, and they do so in large numbers. You can sit outside on a park bench and watch these birds fly over you and head in that direction. This is certainly one of the most unique outdoor activities you can enjoy in the fall. This is a great time to have a picnic lunch outside with your kids and enjoy the time in a park. Listen to the quiet that surrounds you when you’re in the park and simply admire the birds that fly overhead.
Take a hike in nature
Although not unique to fall, this is a great thing to do during the cooler season of the year. There aren’t as many bugs on the hiking trails, and you won’t have to deal with as much sweat caused by the heat of summer. Fall is a wonderful time to head to the trails for a hike that you’ll enjoy. This can be combined with collecting leaves or watching the birds fly overhead, which means you can enjoy several outdoor activities while on your hike.
What are some of the unique outdoor activities you’ll enjoy this fall? Will you take a hayride, go on a hike, collect leaves, or go camping in your yard?
